The Gardener.
Frinned’s Quest. Part Three
It wasn’t long before Little Frinned had made a full recovery and was able to go home. He talked non-stop about the two little girls he had met and sang all the songs he had sung on Earth. The beautiful sound of him singing resounded through the whole of the healing center brightening up the patients and making them chuckle when they heard his giggles as his parents played with him. Frinned and Melody took Little Frinned out into the garden where all the flowers were blooming. They watched with happiness as Little Frinned danced upon the grass.
“This is my May Pole dance!” he shouted as he showed Melody and Frinned the dance he had learnt with Rona and Emily. ” When are we going back Dad?” Little Frinned asked. “I am dancing with Rona, she’s coming to see me today and Emily. When are we going Dad? Can we go now.? It won’t take long to get there and I’m in the dance with Rona.”
Melody was horrified at the thought of Little Frinned going back to Earth.
“Carry on dancing son. I just need to talk to Mummy.” replied Frinned as they walked a little out of earshot of Little Frinned to discuss the matter. As the conversation over the May Pole dance got heated, the gardener who had been tending the roses interrupted them.
“Isn’t it wonderful to see young Frinned so much better? He is such a happy little soul. I happen to overhear your conversation. May I make a suggestion? What if you all went to the May Fair to see young Frinned dance, as a family. You’d both be able to keep a close eye on him and you might enjoy it too. Well I must get on.” said the gardener as he walked away waving to Little Frinned with a big smile on his face.
“Who does he think he is? Interfering in our private business.” said Melody indignantly.
“He does have a good point Melody.” said Frinned. ” Won’t you even consider us all going to the May Fair as a family? We haven’t been together as a family much lately and it would be good to spend some time together.”
“I’ll think about it.” replied Melody ” My Little Frinned needs to have a rest now.” and she called to her son and took him back inside. Whilst he slept Melody went over all the events that had happened and eventually made her decision. Yes, they would go as a family to Earth to the May Fair to watch their son dance but there was no-way she was letting him out of her sight.
Melody looked at her son sleeping and smiled at the perfectly preserved daisy chain necklace around his neck which he refused to take off. She was looking forward to meeting the children who had befriended her son when she wasn’t there for him.
On Earth, the Police surrounded the horse trailer after receiving an annonomous phone call from someone who had seen the horses being taken. Babbling on about seeing a spacecraft they were arrested and charged with horse theft.
The horses all galloped back to the stables, much to the relief of their owner who loved her horses and had started up a riding center for disabled children.
As she cleaned the horse trailer out the following day she noticed something shinning on the trailer floor.
Picking it up and brushing away the dirt from it she found it to be a lovely ring. Helena put it in her pocket for safe keeping and would ask any of the staff if they had lost a ring.
None of her staff had lost a ring and apart from her staff the only other people who had been in the trailer were the rogues who had tried to steal the horses. Thinking they may have dropped it after stealing it from someone she handed it in to the Police station. The Police would try and find the owner.
Mid-morning, Helena sat at her desk surrounded by bills and papers. The riding centre had run at a loss and there was no more money to fund it. She had no alternative but to close the business. Helena put her head in her hands and cried.
The phone rang and it was the local Policeman who told her “I have some good news for you, Ms Newbury. The ring you handed in was stolen in a burglary at the Old Manor House. Sir Lawrence Pittmore is extremely grateful to you for handing it in and has left you a reward for you to collect here.”
“Well that’s nice news.” said Helena flatly. “Well I won’t be able to come today, as I am helping at the school fair this afternoon.”
“Well, it will be waiting for you when you get here, just ask at the desk.” Helena thanked the Policeman and put her phone down.
She wondered what the reward was and after getting ready for the fair, her curiosity got the better of her and she decided that she would pop into the Police Station to pick it up first. She thought a nice bunch of flowers or box of chocolates would cheer her up a bit.
Signing for the envelope, Helena guessed the reward was a cheque. She could not believe her eyes when she opened it in front of the desk sergeant.
“OH MY!!” Helena said, as she felt a bit faint. “Surely this can’t be right?” she said to the desk sergeant. She showed the cheque to the him and said “This must be a mistake.”
The cheque was made out for £250,000.
“Would you like a seat, Ms Newbury?” said the desk sergeant with a huge smile. “The ring, you see, was priceless and a family heirloom passed down through generations. There is even a family tale that it once belonged to the ancient family of Quan Yin in China, but how true that is, we will never know.”
Helena burst into tears. “I was going to have to close the riding school today. I can’t get over this. This will help me keep the riding centre running. I can’t believe it. I must thank Sir Lawrence personally.”
“He has flown to Europe on business and won’t be back for a month.” said the desk sergeant.
“Oh My” said Helena, and with a spring in her step, she left for the school fair.
